Greensboro and was hired as an afternoon Customer Service Representative – in just 45 minutes. Alan, District Manager over the Greensboro area, had been encouraging that store’s manager, Jamie, to find the right employee to serve as sort of his “right hand"; he chose Dustin as that person. But shortly after Dustin started, the manager of the Golden Gate location was given the opportunity to manage our Boone location, so that left an opening at Golden Gate, and Dustin had already expressed an interest in our manager trainee program. Alan thought about the advice that he typically gives his store managers – don’t just look for experience. Find someone that you feel is of good character and go with it. “I saw that Dustin had enthusiasm, a sense of urgency, showed leadership, and was very well spoken,” said Alan. “I knew he would be a good fit.”
Even though Dustin hasn’t been an A Cleaner World Store Manager too terribly long, he’s already made an impression on folks. How do I know? For one, Alan has witnessed Dustin receiving hugs from customers. Plus, there are a few customers that just stop by the store to say hello and ask Dustin about his day. I suspect it’s the can-do, always take-care-of-the-customer attitude he has every day. Here’s a perfect example – recently a customer that needed to catch a flight with his family that evening came in around 3:00 p.m. saying that he’d forgotten to drop off their clothes for the trip. “No problem,” said Dustin, “I can have them ready by 6:00 p.m.” What Dustin didn’t realize was that the order was a combination of around 10 items that required multiple types of cleaning processes, and he was there all alone. Some people thrive under pressure, and thankfully Dustin is one of those folks. He immediately got to work, cleaning and pressing everything all by himself, and then stayed until after closing so the customer could come back by for the order. “I really enjoy interacting with people and being able to help others,” said Dustin. “I also like putting a smile on their faces.”
It also hasn’t taken Dustin long to detect a pattern with many of the garment he sees – customers letting stains sit on garments for weeks before bringing them to be cleaned. If you follow our tips and posts, then you know that if a stain is left untreated for a long period of time, it becomes part of the fabric. “After a stain has had a chance to sit there for a while, it makes my job a little harder,” said Dustin. On a side note, research done by the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute shows that for stains aged for only one week, 20% of stains cannot be removed satisfactorily. After three weeks, the percentage increases to 47%.
If you happen to be near our Golden Gate location, stop by and meet Dustin. Not only will he be happy to answer any garment care questions you might have, he will also be glad to swap fishing stories. Fishing, by far, is one of his most favorite activities. “I keep my rod in my car at all times,” Dustin exclaimed. Smart move. It’s good to always be prepared.
